Luka Modric opens door to Manchester United switch

ShareTottenham midfielder Luka Modric has once again passed up the opportunity to commit his future to the club, instead admitting he will wait until the transfer window slams shut. [LNB]Modric has made several clear hints now that he is willing to exit White Hart Lane if a deal can be done, with Manchester United leading the chase for the Croatia international. [LNB]The 25-year-old has said he will report for duty at Tottenham's Chigwell training base, but won't rule out a move away before the transfer window shuts.  [LNB] Saga: Modric refuses to squash the speculation about his possible transfer[LNB]He told the Daily Star: 'I'm a Tottenham player and will be in London on July 7 to begin preparing for the season, but I want to say that transfers could occur later. [LNB]'If my situation changes after the start of preparation it would not be a problem. In England it is often the case they happen on the last day of the transfer period, August 31, so it is pointless to worry about anything now.'[LNB]Tottenham's failure to land Champions League football for the coming season has been a cause for concern with a number of their top stars admitting they wanted to play in Europe's elite competition.  [LNB]Only last week, while on international duty, Modric said: 'I will tell you the same as all ways - my club status is the same as it was before.[LNB] International class: Modric is a regular for Croatia and has made no attempt to hide his desire to play Champions League football again soon[LNB] [LNB] 'But of course, if there will be an offer which will be good for Tottenham and for me also, then a transfer is of course possible.[LNB]'When you experience playing in Champions League, you want to keep playing in this tournament.'[LNB]But Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has vowed to fight tooth and nail for a player who he believes is key to the club's development.[LNB]Redknapp said on Wednesday: 'I heard some talk about Luka Modric and they were saying (he would cost) ?20m. For Luka? They've got to be dreaming.[LNB]'He's such a fantastic player. He's the last person you ever want to see leave your football club.
