UNITED Reserves slipped to their first defeat of the season despite having the benefit of an extra man for nearly an hour at Prenton Park. Liverpool took the lead in the fifth minute when David Ngog made the most of a mix-up in the United defence to slide the ball past keeper Ron-Robert Zieler. Quick thinking by Reds' defender David Gray saved United from slipping further behind in the 20th minute when he cleared Nathan Eccleston's goalbound shot off the line. The home side were reduced to ten men when Damien Plessis was red-carded for a clumsy challenge on United Magnus Eikrem. United's three frontmen, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and Joshua King, gave Liverpool's defence many an uneasy moment during the second half but the breakthrough remained elusive. UNITED: Zieler, Gray Dudgeon (Gill 66), C Evans, Chester, De Laet, Welbeck, Macheda, King, Eikrem, Tosic (Brady 77)
