Laid-back Berbatov answers his critics: I'm not lazy . . . I just make it look easy

Dimitar Berbatov walked into the room wearing a shirt that looked as though it should perhaps have been accompanied by a pair of pyjama bottoms. Quite appropriate, perhaps, for a player many Manchester United supporters have written off as a little lazy. The Bulgarian was bought for £32m last summer after protracted and, at times, unpleasant negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur. He was the centre-forward around whom Sir Alex Ferguson intended to reshape his attacking ideas. So the fact that he is unlikely to start the Champions League Final perhaps suggests that things haven't really worked out. Berbatov, understandably, disagrees and his argument - to some extent at least - is persuasive. "You know when someone has great qualities sometimes they don't have to put much effort into things," argued Berbatov.
