Manchester City midfielder Vincent Kompany is determined to make an impact when he plays at Old Trafford for the first time. [LNB] Kompany believes the team are in great shape going into the derby against Champions League finalists Manchester United on Sunday and he insists City have come on strong after being knocked out of the UEFA Cup quarter-final by Hamburg. [LNB] "We have increased our level dramatically in those clear weeks and players are coming back fit," the Belgian international told www.mcfc.co.uk. "We have shown what a good side we are. Mark Hughes' ideas can pay off when the personnel is there."[LNB] He added: "We are in a better situation now to prepare. United are in our way and we have to go there and get a result. [LNB] "You have to respect what they are doing. They have proved to be one of the best teams in the world. But on Sunday they are just another Manchester team like us." [LNB] Kompany's upbeat message after four successive victories is echoed by Hughes, who wants his side to secure a place in the Europa League. [LNB] "Sometimes teams seem beaten before the game. You see them in the tunnel and you think it's not going to be an easy time for them, " said the City boss. [LNB] "Even in Europe, you sense that some of the teams are actually beaten before they get there. [LNB] "I am sure it happens in the Premier League as well. You have to go with a belief that you can perform well as a team. I certainly don't see that being a problem at the weekend. We are strong, and that's reassuring for everybody. We know we can cope with the intensity of the game. [LNB] "The confidence comes from winning and knowing you can stand up to the challenge. I think we are at that point now."
