German champions Borussia Dortmund have insisted Japan star Shinji Kagawa is not for sale, despite reports he is on the radar of Premier League giants Manchester United.

According to reports in the Japanese media on Monday, Sir Alex Ferguson's United are planning to send scouts to follow the 22-year-old attacking midfielder at Dortmund games next season.

But Borussia insist Kagawa will be back in the Bundesliga next season following a four-month lay-off with a broken foot suffered in January's Asian Cup and general manager Michael Zorc says the winger is unsellable.

"It's not a topic for us, Kagawa is not for sale," Zorc told German daily Bild.

Kagawa is under contract at Dortmund until June 2013 and Zorc says the Ruhr Valley club are eager to keep him and want to extend his contract.

"Our ambition is to extend Shinji's contract early," said Zorc.

"When he returns from his holidays, we will discuss everything with him in peace."

However Kagawa, who scored eight goals in 18 Bundesliga games last season, before injury struck, is said to be keen to play for the English Premier League champions.

Manchester United are reported to have shown an interest in Kagawa late last year but backed off after he suffered the injury in Japan's Asian Cup semi-final win over South Korea in January.
