United are desperate to bring in the player as they look to strengthen before setting about taking the Premiership crown back off Manchester City next term.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been tracking the player for a number of months and now personal terms have been agreed, a move should not be too long away.
A statement on the United club website read: "The deal is subject only to the player medical and obtaining a UK work permit. These conditions are anticipated to be completed by the end of June."
