Jamie Redknapp's weekend watch: Another late show from Man United

21 March 2011 09:03
LEAVING IT LATE[LNB]Love them or hate them, there's no team in Premier League history that has scored so many important late goals as Manchester United. [LNB]They've broken my heart many times. It's bred into every player that a game is not over till it's over. Sir Alex Ferguson takes chances, throws attacking players on and is rewarded for it. Players win games; managers change them.[LNB] Late show: Berbatov slots past Jaaskelainen to give United yet another late win[LNB] [LNB]   More from Jamie Redknapp... Jamie Redknapp's weekend watch: It is time for retrospective rulings06/03/11 Jamie Redknapp: How I was nailed by West Ham's new Hammer, Hitzlsperger24/02/11 Jamie Redknapp: I'm proud to say I was there to see Rooney's goal 13/02/11 Jamie Redknapp: Newcastle's main man Barton is talk of the Toon06/02/11 Jamie Redknapp: Will Suarez play alongside or instead of Torres?29/01/11 Jamie Redknapp's weekend watch: City new boy Dzeko finding his feet 23/01/11 Jamie Redknapp's weekend watch: Maestro Adam makes Blackpool tick17/01/11 Jamie Redknapp: Dalglish will be Anfield's Mr Motivator 09/01/11 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE  MARVELLOUS MODRIC[LNB]I watched Tottenham's draw with West Ham on Saturday and I make no apologies for talking about Luka Modric again. He's a magnificent player. [LNB]It's worth the entrance fee just to watch him slalom through tackles, play passes and pinch possession. He's up there with the best, a mixture of Scholes and Fabregas. I hope he shows that against Real Madrid.[LNB]STOKE IN DREAMLAND[LNB]Stoke have been getting a lot of stick for their direct play lately. People say they're all about long throws, set-pieces and route one. But three of their four goals against Newcastle came from open play. [LNB]Their fans must be in dreamland, with a semifinal at Wembley ahead and a top-half finish to play for. Tony Pulis, my old team-mate at Bournemouth, has done a wonderful job.[LNB]HAIL KING LUIS[LNB]Luis Suarez is a Anfield No 7 legend in the making. Forget about Fernando Torres taking time to adjust after a big move, Suarez has made it look easy since arriving from Ajax. [LNB]He reminds me of Carlos Tevez; he's a real pocket rocket, who plays witha big smile on his face. I think he'll prove to be a great acquisition for the Barclays Premier League, not just Liverpool.[LNB] Pocket rocket: Luis Suarez celebrates scoring Liverpool's second at Sunderland[LNB]PREDICTION PUZZLE [LNB]Burnley were relegated last season with 30 points. Roberto Martinez's Wigan have reached that tally with eight games to go - the biggest haul for a bottomplaced side at this stage of the season in Premier League history. [LNB]All predictions have gone out of the window, anything can happen in this crazy season - at both ends of the table.[LNB]CAPELLO'S CAPTAIN[LNB]There's no doubt John Terry is a leader of men and right to be captain of Chelsea but what has Fabio Capello gained in getting rid of Rio Ferdinand as England skipper? [LNB]At the start of his reign, the England boss didn't put much importance on the captaincy - now it's all we're talking about. If England don't shine in Cardiff next week the knives will be out.[LNB] Controversial: Capello has upset Ferdinand by giving Terry the captaincy[LNB] PLAY UP POMPEY[LNB]Steve Cotterill, Portsmouth manager: one defeat in their last 10 Championship games includes seven wins, leaving them six points off the play-offs! [LNB]The club was on a life support machine in the summer and didn't come out of administration until November - not a penny spent and none available. Five loan players start every week and he's only been able to fill his bench twice this season! No wonder the big clubs are starting to pay attention.
