It's all yours United but we have been great too, insists Liverpool boss Rafa

Rafa Benitez conceded the inevitable yesterday as he saluted his Liverpool team for staying in the Barclays Premier League title race so long and grudgingly acknowledged Manchester United's right to a hat-trick of wins. After weeks of looking for chinks in the defending champions' armour with a stream of carefully delivered barbs, the Liverpool boss switched the focus to his own team's contribution to a contest that will be over if United avoid defeat at home to Arsenal tomorrow. It was confirmation that he knows Liverpool's gallant fight is at an end, after United's 2-1 win at Wigan on Wednesday, but there was justifiable pride in running them so close and doing so in some style. While Liverpool, who do not play until Sunday at West Bromwich, have thrived in head-to-head meetings with their main rivals, and again exceeded 100 goals overall, United's success has been based on their ruthlessness against teams in the lower reaches. Liverpool have done the double over United and Chelsea and drawn home and away with Arsenal, while Sir Alex Ferguson's side have taken a mere four points from their five top-four encounters so far.
