Is Tottenham winger Gareth Bale the new target for Manchester United?

And now Manchester United, the best club of the Premier League, enters the fray, if the Daily Mirror is to be believed, for the hottest goal scorer in the country as they are rumoured to be in the process of submitting a £60 million bid for the Welsh star.

David Moyes’s transfer activity so far has been as lean as Arsenal’s but with a strong squad already at his disposal, he might not regret not making any many more transfers in the build-up to the next campaign of the Premier League. United’s endless obsession with obtaining the services of Fabregas could be an ambitious move to beef up their midfield and link two former Arsenal greats on the field (a truly vile sight for any Gunner fan) that could pay dividends as Moyes seeks to continue on the lines of Sir Alex’s immense success at the club.

United’s only signing so far this summer, Guillermo Varela, is not exactly the super star we have come to associate with the club. The snub handed out to them by Spanish sensation Alcantara coupled with the tortuous tale that is Wayne Rooney have been hogging the headlines of late.

United’s rich history of success and the invincible aura they emanate are great attractions for a player of Bale’s stature and the club’s ability to hike his wages by a substantial amount could also persuade him if the opportunity came calling. That’s not to say that the Spurs’ fan won’t forgive him quite easily if he does make such a move.

United might or might not attempt to lure Bale away from London and the Tottenham star might yet stay back at his current club for another year but a move away to the big guns of Europe is surely inevitable in the near future.
