I can fire England's World Cup bid if I keep scoring for United, insists Rooney

Wayne Rooney says a blistering season for Manchester United is just what he needs to help kick-start England's World Cup campaign in South Africa next summer. The United striker scored in the Community Shield against Chelsea and in his side's opening day victory over Birmingham City in the Barclays Premier League. Last season Rooney took until October to break his duck but this term he is already on his way and the 23-year-old reckons it can only benefit him and England in the World Cup in 2010. He said: 'I'm enjoying my football. Thankfully the manager has comeout and said he's going to play me up front all season. I'm looking forward to that. 'That's two goals in two games and hopefullythat'll continue. If we can win the league this season it will setmyself and the other England lads up nicely for the World Cup.'
