HATCHET MAN: Time running out for penalty villain Berbatov to win over United's fans

Dimitar Berbatov just does not know how to find favour at Manchester United. With supporters underwhelmed by his contribution since signing from Tottenham, the striker confirmed all their doubts when he lazily stepped up for his penalty in the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Everton. His soft spot kick in the Wembley shootout was pathetic and excuses about waiting and watching Tim Howard and being left clueless because he went the right way just make it worse. What was the point of delaying to see which way the goalkeeper was going if he was committed to hitting the ball one way already? Berbatov's failure from 12 yards is one of the reasons United's charge for five trophies is off and he needs to wake-up and respond to his situation. Mooching around at Spurs when he was head and shoulders above his team-mates was fine, but at United he is struggling to make his mark. Carlos Tevez's future at Old Trafford may be uncertain but what supporter wouldn't prefer to see that bundle of energy giving his all to the cause instead of Berbatov's minimalist style? The Bulgarian is a brilliant player and he can do so much more than he has this season but he has to realise that winning over the fans is vital. Berbatov has to find a way that doesn't disrupt his game to show them how much he cares or his Wembley disappointment will be the least ofhis problems.
