Hatchet man: Rio's in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks Jose is fit to replace Fergie

Rio Ferdinand has made more than his fair share of flighty statements over the years, but hinting that Jose Mourinho should be the next Manchester United

manager shows he really does have his head in the clouds.

The Portuguese may be arrogant enough for the job, as Ferdinand claims, but what about the club's tradition of attacking football?

Winner at all costs: Mourinho's style would not go down well at Old Trafford

Mourinho is a pragmatist and really couldn't care less about style and aesthetics. He wins at all costs and whatever you think about United, winning alone never seems to be enough.

They may have some thoroughly irritating players and Mr Unreasonable himself as a manager in Sir Alex Ferguson, but they always seem to try to play and bringing in Mourinho would mean an end to that.

Ferdinand apparently is planning to have owls at his wedding later this year and while that may not be a wise move, replacing the Scottish one when he retires with the Special One is an idea from cloud cuckoo land.
