Gordon urges fight from Black Cats

Craig Gordon believes his side need to forget about style and focus on substance in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League. The Black Cats have hit bad form at the wrong time and lost their fourth successive Premier League match with a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United on Saturday. Ricky Sbragia's men have now not won in seven league games and find themselves one place and two points above the drop zone. But the goalkeeper, who has played in the club's last two games after a two-month spell on the bench, believes last season's successful relegation fight can help them in their survival bid this time around. "We need to roll up our sleeves and get on with it," he told the Sunderland Echo. "We managed to survive last year by doing that and we have the experience of that to call upon. "We might not be the prettiest team to watch between now and the end of the season but it is all about getting results." Despite their untimely run of form the 26-year-old still believes the team have enough time to turn things around with six games remaining. "It's not been a great run for us, there's no denying that. But it's happened to every single team at some point during the season and unfortunately our little run has come now," he added. "We've still got time to put things right though and we're still in a better position than the teams below us. It's still in our own hands." With back-to-back games against fellow strugglers Hull City and West Brom next up Sunderland know they can ease their relegation fears in the coming weeks, but Gordon is adamant that all of the remaining games have equal significance. "We need something similar, but we can't look at the next two games and just think that we'll be fine," he admitted. "We've got six games and need to scrape as many points out of each of those games as we can."
