Good Evans! Jonny shock £12m target for Barca after United block Vidic bid

Barcelona are planning an audacious move for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.   The La Liga club sounded out a move for Nemanja Vidic earlier this summer but were given short shrift by Sir Alex Ferguson.   Now Barcelona are set to turn their attentions to Northern Ireland centre-back Evans, who enjoyed a prolonged spell in the United first team last season.   Evans, 21, proved a capable deputy when Rio Ferdinand and Vidic were injured. Now Catalan giants Barcelona are plotting a £12million raid for the United star.  Gerard Pique left United in 2008 to move to the Nou Camp and he has thrived in Spain since - winning the Champions League final against United last season.   But they face a fight to lure Evans away from Old Trafford - his contract expires in 2011. Ferguson has told the youngster he can expect more first team action if he stays with the club.
