The Glazer family are set to float part of Manchester United on the Singapore stock market in a bid to raise 1bn dollars this year.

The deal could be launched by end of this year provided market conditions remained conducive at the time of issuance, IFR reported on Tuesday, citing a source with direct knowledge of the plans. With more than 190 million fans in Asia, out of nearly 300m around the world, the region has become an important growth area for the club.

The owners, the Glazer family, have been looking into a Far East stock flotation for the past few months in order to free up cash for themselves and clear the club's debts, which were incurred when they performed a leveraged buyout of the club in 2005.
