Welsh football legend Ryan Giggs made a record 145th appearance in the Champions League when he came on as a substitute in the second-half of Manchester United's game with Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The winger, who turns 40 in November, was making his 145th appearance when he replaced Marouane Fellaini in Donetsk to move one ahead of Spanish striking great Raul.

Giggs, who is the most decorated player in English football history, made his Champions League debut over 20 years ago against Hungarian side Kispest Honved.
