French international opens the door to Manchester United move

French midfielder Yohan Cabaye hints at the possibility to Newcastle exit.

Versatile midfielder and free kick specialist Cabaye spoke in an interview in Canal+ in France saying “it could be an interesting challenge” when questioned regarding a possible move to league champions Manchester United. Cabaye later went on to say “there is nothing concrete and I am still at Newcastle” in an attempt to remain as diplomatic as possible.

The Frenchman had a stunning first season at the 'toon' and guided them to a fifth place finish in the league, following some excellent performances. However, just one year later, following a campaign marred by injury, Cabaye and his team mates found themselves just two places above the relegation zone and it seems this has prompted Cabaye to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

French spending powers PSG and Monaco have both expressed a desire to lure the 27 year old back to France. It is believed that Newcastle, led by owner Mike Ashley, will demand £20 million to let the player with three years remaining on his contract to leave the club.

Manchester United are yet to respond to the Frenchman's words and it is uncertain as to whether Cabaye features in the plans of David Moyes at all, although the players desire to switch could cause him to change his mind.
