Ferguson to rest van der Sar

Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to rest goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar for Manchester United's Barclays Premier League trip to Blackburn.

United will seal a record 19th league title if they avoid defeat at Ewood Park but, after totting up 42 appearances already this term, Ferguson feels it is time the 40-year-old had a break.

"I may rest Edwin on Saturday," confirmed the United boss. "Given the programme of the last few weeks and the fact he has played in every game, it is important to take the opportunity to give him a break."

Although even he gave the impression the title was won by beating Chelsea at Old Trafford last week, Ferguson is keen to emphasise the fact his side remain fully focused on completing the job.

"It is most important we approach this game in the right way," he said.

"This is always a difficult game. Blackburn probably need another point to stay in the Premier League and we will not be underestimating them."
