Fergie tips Giggs to win award

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he would like Ryan Giggs to pip his four other players to the PFA Player of the Year award.[LNB] The Welsh winger is set to make his 800th Manchester United appearance this weekend in the match against Tottenham and Ferguson believes that Giggs is a worthy recipient of the award - despite being up against team-mates Edwin van der Sar, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.[LNB]But Ferguson feels Giggs should win not just for his efforts this season, but for many seasons prior to this.[LNB]"I hope Ryan gets the PFA award," said Giggs' manager.[LNB]"He has played 30 games this season and the way we use squads nowadays, no-one plays in every game.[LNB]"Hopefully he is rewarded for his contribution to the game. He thoroughly deserves it."[LNB]Example The Scot continues to heap praise on Giggs, and recalls a memory of events following the Red Devils' UEFA Champions League triumph last season, when the Welshman broke Sir Bobby Charlton's United appearance record.[LNB]"We gave Ryan all the accolades in Moscow," added Ferguson.[LNB]"The players' presentation was very emotional and it was a great representation of how the players feel about the boy.[LNB]"It was fantastic. He is the most respected player in the club and what he has achieved is an example to everyone."[LNB]Ferguson feels growing up in the local area helped Giggs to be taken to the hearts of Manchester United fans, but is quick to dispel any notions that he is there based on that factor.[LNB]"It is unbelievable to think he has been at the top for so long.[LNB]"We are a very special club and we are lucky that players have chosen to spend their entire careers here. [LNB]"Being local boys does help. But they are not here on sentiment. They are here on ability."[LNB]
