Fergie - Team is decided

28 February 2009 20:51
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he knows who his starting XI is to face Tottenham in the Carling Cup final. The Red Devils tactician, who has already confirmed that Darron Gibson and Danny Welbeck would start, had been sweating over the fitness of Jonny Evans. But the highly-rated Northern Ireland international is no longer a doubt, so Ferguson knows what his team will be. Indeed, the United boss has admitted he actually knew what his starting XI would be earlier this week, telling MUTV: "I know what the team is. I knew days ago. “There is always a reservation because you need players to get through a few days. But I don't think there is any doubt about Evans now, so the team is picked." Ferguson has never been afraid of making bold decisions for big matches, none bigger than his decision to drop goalkeeper Jim Leighton in favour of Les Sealey for the 1990 FA Cup final replay. The tough task of telling bitterly disappointed players they are not involved has never got any easier for Ferguson, however. "It is not an easy decision," he said. "Everyone wants to play in a final and players have been whispering in my ear all week saying they want to play." Catch all the action live at it unfolds from Wembley exclusively on Sky Sports 1 and HD 1.
