Sir Alex Ferguson watched his side grab a very important win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and said United were the better side. Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck were both on the mark for United as they whittled Man City's lead at the top of the table down to three points.

The United boss pointed out that his back four had a great game and reserved particular praise for them.

"I felt eventually we were the better side," said Fergie.

"Credit to the players at the back who did a great job. "We rode our luck a bit but on the counter attack I thought we could have scored more goals."

Welbeck also received praise, he added: "In the last few weeks he's really come into his game, he's got over the bad injury he had last season and he's getting better all the time."
