Fergie is wrong to flog Ronaldo - even for £80m, claims United legend Crerand
Manchester United legend Pat Crerand believes the pending world record £80 million sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid is bad business by the Barclays Premier League champions.
United would make a profit of almost £70m on Ronaldo, who was signed from Sporting Lisbon for £12.25m in 2003.
Crerand thinks there could be a backlash against the Tampa-based Glazer family who own United.
He said: 'I don't think it's a good deal. Fans are more interested in trophies than money. If this happens the supporters will turn round and blame the people in America.
'I'll be severely disappointed if he goes because he's a magnificent player. He's a really nice lad as well.'
But Crerand poured cold water on assertions that Ronaldo supported Real as a youngster.
'I keep hearing his boyhood heroes were Real Madrid,' he added.
'His boyhood heroes were not Real Madrid, his team as a kid were Benfica.'
