Fergie defends his £30m flop Berbatov as United fans fume at Bulgaria striker's penalty stinker

Stinker: Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov reacts after fluffing his penalty against Everton Sir Alex Ferguson has leapt to the defence of record signing Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian's £30.75million transfer fee has been the subject of considerable debate almost since the day he moved north from Tottenham last summer. And the critics have been out in force again following Berbatov's woeful penalty miss in the FA Cup semi-final shoot-out defeat to Everton at Wembley. The Bulgaria striker was the subject of much vitriol on radio phone-ins and online message boards yesterday.. As one of Manchester United's more experienced players, a lot more was expected of Berbatov yesterday, although afterwards he did look genuinely distraught at the defeat.
