Fergie - Anyone can win it

Sir Alex Ferguson believes form will go out of the window when Manchester United travel to Liverpool on Sunday. The Premier League champions go into the game top of the table and with one foot in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League after just three games of the group phase. Conversely, Liverpool have seen their titles hopes almost evaporate after suffering their fourth league defeat of the season last weekend against Sunderland. Another loss against Lyon at Anfield on Tuesday made it four consecutive defeats for Rafa Benitez's men leaving their European aspirations hanging by a thread. "Manchester United and Liverpool games, as I have said many times, are without question massive games. That will never change," Ferguson said. Massive game"In my first derby game with them I got a complete sense of the history of both teams and it hasn't changed. It is still a massive game. "It is the game as far as I am concerned, that won't change. "We are going in with decent form, there is good confidence in our play, but it is a derby game and anything can happen in derby games. "Going to Anfield at any time is a hard game." A win for United would heap more pressure on Benitez but Ferguson is only focusing on what his team do on Sunday. "I'm not interested in Liverpool," he added. "I'm only concerned about what we do on Sunday." Despite Liverpool completing the double over United last term, including a humiliating 4-1 win at Old Trafford, Ferguson insists his side do not have a point to prove going into the clash. "I don't see that we have a point to prove. Different games are shaped by circumstances of games," he explained. "You can't look at last season as a barometer of our form or Liverpool's form. Derby games are derby games and anyone can win it. "Strange things can happen. It has happened so many times." Number oneFerguson is delighted to have Edwin van der Sar back in goal and the Scot agreed with Ruud Gullit when the Dutchman claimed the United shot-stopper was the best on the planet. "Ruud Gullit said he was the best in the world and got no argument from the rest of the (Sky Sports) panel," he stated. "His argument was quite right - look at his record over the years. His experience, his composure, his organisational ability - he really is a fantastic goalkeeper. "He does make a difference to us."
