Fabio Capello and Rio Ferdinand skip England captaincy showdown talks

Fabio Capello's attempt to explain to Rio Ferdinand why he is reinstating John Terry as England captain took a farcical twist when the two men failed to meet up despite both being at Old Trafford. [LNB]It leaves the captaincy issue in limbo and has created a ridiculous stand-off. Capello announced on Monday that he would hold discussions with Ferdinand but, bizarrely, no formal arrangements were made. [LNB] Snubbed: Rio Ferdinand arrives at Old Trafford ahead of the Marseille match[LNB] Ferdinand is not happy with the way Capello has handled the situationand, aware that the Italian would be in the Old Trafford directors'box, chose to sit in another part of the stadium.[LNB]It makes the situation extremely awkward for Capello, who might well see Terry when he attends Chelsea's Champions League clash at home to Copenhagen this evening. [LNB] He's over there: Capello's assistant Franco Baldini may have spotted Ferdinand in the crowd at Old Trafford[LNB]United boss Sir Alex Ferguson refused to be drawn into the row, saying: 'I'm not getting involved with that, it's nothing to do with me.'
