Former Manchester United and England defender Brian Greenhoff has died at the age of 60, his family announced on Wednesday.
In a statement sent to regional newspaper the Manchester Evening News, his family said he had passed away on Wednesday morning, without specifying the cause of death.
"We regret to inform of Brian's passing this morning, Wednesday 22nd May at the age of 60," the statement said.
"Brian was a proud and much loved brother, husband of Maureen, father of Paul, Brian and Peter, grandfather to Jack, James and Harry and will be sorely missed by his family, who he made very proud in his distinguished life and career."
The newspaper reported that Greenhoff had died in Rochdale, near Manchester.
Greenhoff, who played at centre-back and in midfield, signed for United as a youth player in 1968.
He was joined at the club by his elder brother, Jimmy, in 1976 and a year later the pair lifted the FA Cup after a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Brian Greenhoff made 271 appearances for United, scoring 17 goals, and won 18 caps for England.
He later joined Leeds United and also worked as both a player and a coach at Rochdale.
