England in with 'great chance' of hosting 2018 World Cup, says Sir Alex Ferguson

The Manchester United manager, who will be 76 by the time of the tournament, is backing England's bid and met members of Fifa's bid inspection team during their visit last month. [LNB]Ferguson was also enthusiastic about the prospect of Old Trafford hosting games at the World Cup finals for the first time since 1966. [LNB]Sir Alex Fergusons trust in Manchester United young guns pays off'England must have a great chance of winning it,' he told Inside United magazine. 'The facilities for players and fans are magnificent, from training grounds to stadiums, and the passion of the English people for the game would ensure that everybody would be made to feel welcome. [LNB]'The transport links are very good here as well it's a very easy country to get around and all the major cities have good hotels. It would be a great honour for Old Trafford to host some of the games it's one of the finest stadiums in the world.'[LNB]England are competing against Russia, the United States, and the joint bids of Belgium/Holland and Portugal/Spain for the right to host the tournament, with the decision to be announced on Dec 2.
