Edwin calls for Utd reaction

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has challenged his team-mates to do better next season following their 2-0 UEFA Champions League final loss against Barcelona. The Premier League holders started Wednesday night's showpiece in Rome impressively but were rocked after just 10 minutes when striker Samuel Eto'o netted for Barca. United then struggled to regain their rhythm and Pep Guardiola's men comfortably sealed a memorable treble, having already won the Primera Division and Copa del Rey, as Lionel Messi headed home in the second half. Experienced shot-stopper Van der Sar believes Barca's opening goal tipped the game in the Spanish team's favour and conceded United paid the price for poor ball retention thereafter, but he is already looking to next year. Wrong "We are all really disappointed with the performance and the result," said Van der Sar. "It was a bad first goal to concede and after that we suffered a little bit and we couldn't get back into playing our game. Barcelona kept possession very well. "After the first goal it just all seemed to go wrong for us. We seemed to be under pressure, even when we had the ball. It was just one of those nights when things didn't go so well for us and everything they tried seemed to come off. Response"We have come from behind plenty of times before, so the goal itself was not an issue. But what it [Barca's first goal] did was to allow them to start playing a little bit. "In situations like that you have to try and keep possession but at times I felt we lost it a little bit too easily." The Dutchman concluded on the club's official website: "You have to give Barcelona credit. "They have won the European title so they are now the best team in Europe. They played very well, and all we can do is try to do better next year."
