[LNB] Speaking out: De Gea has broken his silence over doughnut-gate [LNB]De Gea, who arrived at Old Trafford earlier this summer in a ?17.8million deal from La Liga side Atletico Madrid, claimed he intended to pay for the ?1.19 Krispy Kreme treat before realising he had left his wallet in his car. [LNB]Security staff at the Tesco Express in Altrincham, in Greater Manchester, collared the 20-year-old after he apparently scoffed down the doughnut in the aisle. [LNB]But De Gea said: 'Nothing really happened. [LNB]'Me, my cousin and a friend from Spain went to the shop, we were hungry and took the doughnuts. Nothing more.'[LNB] De Gea admitted he had a lucky escape after a Spanish compatriot helped him explain the situation after being monitored on the store's CCTV.[LNB] 'They thought that I was leaving without paying so I tried to explain to them but my English is still notvery good and we were there for a while,' he told The Sun.[LNB] 'In the end a Spanish girl arrived and we understood each other and in the end they ended up apologising to us.[LNB] On the bench: De Gea was left out of United's starting line-up [LNB] 'They made a big thing out of nothing but I took the whole thing as something funny.' [LNB] The young keeper did not play in last weekend's 2-0 win over Norwich but is hoping to return to the United starting XI for their Barclays Premier League trip to Anfield after the international break . [LNB] De Gea was rested in favour of rival Anders Lindegaard but denied he was dropped over the doughnut incident. [LNB]'Absloutely not true,' he said. 'They're not going to drop me for a doughnut. [LNB]'The manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] is the one that decides. [LNB]'He rotates players a lot and when he thinks it's the right thing to do, he leaves you on the bench.'[LNB] It did not stop his Old Trafford team-mates from teasing him, however, with De Gea the butt of jokes at club's Carrington training ground last week. [LNB]He added: 'A few of my team-mates gave me a few doughnuts as a joke. 'But I took it in good humour and thought the whole thing was funny.'[LNB]  Manchester United 2 Norwich 0: Anderson and Welbeck keep United on topSticky-fingered United keeper De Gea caught stealing doughnut from TescoWelbeck: I have become a man and look forward to scoring goals galore for UnitedAll the latest Manchester United news, features and opinion
