Van Gaal has promised to tell the players who do not feature in his vision for the United future in person and soon so that plans can be made for their transfer in this window. Anderson and Fellaini didn't travel with the squad for the pre-season tour which culminated in Man United’s first piece of silverwear and are expected to be in the ‘unlikely to stay’ category.

The Independent has suggested that Van Gaal will axe Fellaini, Kagawa, Hernandez and United in a feature which explores the decision to cut down the squad and raise funds for who the manager believes he needs. A name often mentioned is Daley Blind with his Van Gaal connection and World Cup performances for the Dutch.

The versatile 24-year-old Ajax Defender and Midfielder has made 99 senior appearances for the Eredivisie outfit and played at all levels of international football and named Dutch Footballer of the Year for 2013-14 as a holding central midfielder as Ajax won a fourth consecutive league title. In April 2013 it was announced that Blind had agreed to extend his contract until the summer of 2016.

According to the Express the United boss should be making a move on Blind as a versatile defensive option once he has trimmed the squad down. The Dutch connection would certainly make him an easy fit but it remains to be seen if Ajax will le him go and at what cost.

Blind was selected for the 2014 World Cup and started as a left wingback, assisting goals for Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben in the 5-1 demolition of Spain. Blind scored his first senior goal for the Dutch in the 3-0 defeat of Brazil in the third-place play-off match.
