Speculation linking Manchester United's starry No 7 with a move to the Bernabeu will intensify further over the summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson may not be in the habit of keeping a stock of Liverpool tapes but he could do Ronaldo a huge favour by showing him footage of how Madrid were embarrassed home and away by Rafael Benitez's side. He could also point out that Madrid trail Barcelona in La Liga, have an average bunch of players and a caretaker coach in Juande Ramos whose long-term prospects would be mocked by the local bull population.
