Coca-Cola to end their six-year deal with the Football League next summer

The Football League are looking for a new title backer next season having turned down the offer from Coca-Cola to renew a sponsorship that has run for five years. Coca-Cola, whose doubts about continuing their deal were revealed by Sports Agenda two weeks ago, are understood to have offered around £6million a year, the price of the current three-year agreement, which was not enough for the Football League, who are confident of finding new sponsors prepared to pay significantly more. More from Charles Sale... But they will be searching in a crowded marketplace following the Premier League rejecting sponsors Barclays’ £72m offer for the next three years and energy suppliers E.ON not renewing their FA Cup backing. E.ON want to stay in football and will be interested in the Football League deal. Coca-Cola, looking to concentrate on their big football sponsorships still in place, the World Cup, European Championship, Olympic Games and Wayne Rooney, say they have different priorities away from the Football League but want to continue with a lesser commercial partnership.
