Champions host Prem new boys

Manchester United will face Premier League new-boys Birmingham City at Old Trafford on the opening day. The holders, who secured their third successive Premier League crown last season, then face another promoted team in Burnley three days later in what will sure to be an electric atmosphere at Turf Moor. United then finish the week travelling to Wigan in what is a relatively straight forward opening month for Sir Alex Ferguson's men. However August ends with a massive clash with potential title challengers Arsenal at the Theatre of Dreams, a game which is swiftly followed by a trip to Tottenham and a derby match with Manchester City at home in September. The Red Devils first face arch rivals Liverpool in October when they travel to Anfield on the 24th. Meanwhile Ferguson will first lock horns with new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti in November when he takes his team to Stamford Bridge on the 7th.
