Carrick salutes veteran trio
Michael Carrick has paid tribute to experienced Manchester United team-mates Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.[LNB] The three players have enjoyed long and successful careers at Old Trafford but they remain important figures, both on and off the pitch.[LNB]Carrick, who joined United from Tottenham in 2006, believes they are perfect role models for younger members of the squad.[LNB]"They are a massive influence on everyone," he said.[LNB]"I don't know whether the lads are aware of it, but it is just the way they are. They give advice and lead by example. They have been here so long they know what is required.[LNB]"As a new arrival at the club you just try to follow their lead.[LNB]"But it is not easy because they have set the standards so high over the years and are still doing it now. They are true legends at this club."[LNB]Point of no returnUnited are firm favourites to win the Premier League as they currently lead the title race by seven points with 12 games remaining.[LNB]They have also been tipped to win the Carling Cup, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League but Carrick realises it is now the point of no return in such competitions as one poor performance could lead to elimination.[LNB]"One bad game in the Champions League and you can suffer," said the midfielder.[LNB]"The Carling Cup final is the same next weekend.[LNB]"To win the league is hard enough. To win the Champions League, you need things to go your way as it did at important times last season."[LNB]
