Carlos Tevez will not join Manchester United for free says Sir Alex Ferguson

United are currently locked in difficult negotiations with the Argentine forward's representatives over a permanent contract for the player, whose two-year loan spell at the club ends in the summer. Ferguson has insisted that he is keen to keep Tevez at the club, but the two parties remain apart in terms of the player's valuation and salary demands. Yet despite reports that Tevez could break his contract with his owners and sign for United for nothing in a Bosman-style deal, Ferguson insists that is unlikely to be a route that United will pursue. He said: "I haven't read that one. I'm not going to discuss anything like that because I think that's a bit far-fetched. "But I am going to address this (Tevez situation) because I said months ago that I am fed up talking about players' contracts. "(United chief executive) David Gill met with him (Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian) on Wednesday and that is a clear fact. "They discussed the avenue in which Carlos Tevez can stay at Manchester United and that's it. End of story. I'm not getting into it any more." United face Arsenal at Old Trafford tomorrow needing to claim a point to secure the Premier League title. But defender Rio Ferdinand is set to miss a third successive game with a calf injury. Despite the England international's fitness worries, Ferguson is confident he will be fit to face Barcelona in the Champions League Final on May 27. Ferguson said: "The one area where we would like to have better news is Rio Ferdinand. "I'm sure he will be fit for the final, but these calf niggles usually take between 10 days and two weeks. "That's where we are with him, but I'm hopeful he will be fit for next Sunday's game against Hull and he should be really. "If that happens, then it will be good news for us, but he is not available for the Arsenal game tomorrow. "That's the only concern because everyone else is fit." Ferguson insists that United will aim to win the title in style by defeating Arsenal tomorrow. He said: "Playing for a point is always a dangerous game to play. We need to try to go for the win."
