Manchester United and Arsenal both progress to the Carling Cup quarter-finals following victories on Tuesday night.

Full round-up below.

Aldershot Town 0-3 Manchester United: FT

Manchester United avoided further humiliation after their derby drubbing as they breezed through their Carling Cup clash at Aldershot with a 3-0 victory.

An entirely different starting XI to Sunday's 6-1 thrashing by Manchester City made sure there was no hangover, thanks to Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia's first goals of the season and another League Cup strike from Michael Owen.

Aldershot tried their best to bridge the gulf in class between npower League Two side and the Barclays Premier League champions but they failed until late on to seriously test a rearguard that had looked vulnerable in the extreme in recent weeks.

Arsenal 2-1 Bolton Wanderers: FT

Andrey Arshavin and Park Ju-young scored in quick succession to help Arsenal secure progression from their Carling Cup tie against Bolton as they recorded a 2-1 victory.

After a first half in which both sides failed to stamp their authority, the Trotters started the second period brightly and broke the deadlock two minutes in through Fabrice Muamba.

However, the former Arsenal midfielder's goal only served to spur the home side into life as Arshavin and Park turned the game on its head soon afterwards.

Cardiff City 1-0 Burnley: FT

Joe Mason's second goal in as many matches helped Cardiff to a 1-0 victory over Burnley in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

The youngster netted in the Bluebirds' 5-3 win over Barnsley on Saturday and he bagged the only goal of the game in the 39th minute to propel Malky Mackay's men into the quarter-finals.

Crystal Palace 2-0 Southampton: FT

Darren Ambrose and Jermaine Easter fired Crystal Palace into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 victory as Southampton boss Nigel Adkins' Midas touch deserted him.

Midfielder Ambrose rifled in his fourth goal of the season midway through the second half and Easter settled matters from the penalty spot.
