CARLING CUP THIRD ROUND Barnsley 0 Man United 2 (FT)Blackburn 5 Peterborough 2 (FT)Portsmouth 4 Stoke 0 (FT)Sunderland 0 Aston Villa 0 (Villa win 3-1 on pens)Tottenham  2 Everton 0 (FT)  That's it then for Carling Cup action tonight. No upsets to report so the big talking point of the evening will be Gary Neville's horror challenge that saw him sent off, it was a really nasty. [LNB]I'm back with all the action from Liverpool v Arsenal and all the other ties tomorrow night from 7pm, see you then. [LNB]22.24: VILLA WIN ON PENALITIES! Guzan makes saves from Reid, Cana and Henderson to send the Villans through to the quarter finals. [LNB]22.13: Kieran Richardson wastes a glorious chance to steal it right at the death but shoots instead of squaring to Reid who could have tapped in. That's full time in extra time so we'll now have penalties. [LNB]22.04: Nope, the deadlock has still not been broken between Sunderland and Villa - but, in other news from the north east - Chris Hughton has been named the Newcastle boss and the club are no longer for sale. [LNB]21.56: No real chances to speak of at the Stadium of Light. A decent game but this one may be going to penalties. [LNB]21.48: FULL TIME: The games have ended at White Hart Lane and Ewood Park - Spurs and Blackburn secure their places in Saturday's draw.[LNB] Seeing Red: Chris Foy shows Gary Neville a straight red card after his challenge on Adam Hammill[LNB]21.41: EXTRA TIME: Sunderland and Villa need another 30 minutes to find a result. [LNB]21.40: FULL TIME: The holders Manchester United and Portsmouth books their spots in the quarter finals. [LNB]21.35: Oops, someone's had a shandy. Two Barnsley fans run on and one slams the ball into the net as Foster waits to take a goal kick. Stop smirking. Three minutes time added on to be played.[LNB]21.33: GOAL! and GOAL! Blackburn add a fourth and fifth against Peterborough.[LNB]21.30: The United fans chant 'you've only come to see United.' Hardly - Barnsley have been much the better side for vast tracts of this match. [LNB]21.25: GOAL! Kanu makes it four for Pompey on the rarest of occasions for the south coast club this season - an enjoyable one! [LNB]21.21: With all the goals elsewhere, I should update you as to the goings on at Oakwell and surprise, surprise, Barnsley have been squandering more chances. [LNB]21.17: GOAL! Robbie Keane puts Spurs two up against Everton - game over there methinks. [LNB]21.15: GOAL! It's Michel Salgado, the former Madrid man to get in on the act now as he puts Rovers into the lead for the third time this evening. [LNB] Threesy-does it: Salgado wheels away after nabbing Rovers' third goal [LNB]21.13: Nope, it's not going to be Barnsley's night. Hume cuts back to Bogdanovic but it's just deflected wide for corner - De Silva then guides a glorious chance wide with his head. [LNB]21.11: GOAL! George Boyd has slammed Posh level at Ewood Park. A fine goal. [LNB]21.10: Hume replaces Macken for Barnsley and then the substitute wastes a golden opportunity to get the hosts right back into it. Eight yards out, unmarked, his header sailed wide. Big miss. And Michael Owen is replaced by De Laet. [LNB]21.06: RED CARD! Gary Neville walks after a horrible tackle on Hammill. Chris Foy had no option but to give him a straight red. [LNB]21.05: GOAL! Piquionne gets his second of the night to seal Pompey's place in the quarter final. [LNB]21.03: GOAL! Michael Owen scores a fantastically taken effort. He megged Moore and slid the ball past Steele with fantastic pace. [LNB] All smiles: Michael Owen takes the praise after bagging United's second[LNB]21.02: GOAL! Danny Webber doubles Pompey's lead. [LNB]20.59: Another chance for the home side. Bogdanovic breaks down the right and squares to De Silva but he snatches his shot wide of the upright. [LNB]8.55: Welbeck is replaced by Tosic. [LNB]8.52: If Barnsley had shown a bit more willing they would have drawn level. Macken combined well with Bodanovic and the cross flew across the box but there was no one there to meet it. [LNB]8.48: A fantastic early chance for Michael Owen. Welbeck slid him in but he poked his shot wide from eight yards. [LNB]8.45: We're back underway at Oakwell - has the Fergie hairdryer been in use at half-time? You'd imagine so. [LNB]8.42: GOAL! Steven Reid hands Rovers the lead from the penalty spot right on half time. That's his first goal in just over three years. I think his last was that screamer away against Wigan. I might be wrong - do let me know. [LNB]8.32: It's half-time at Oakwell and United will breath a sigh of relief after a lightning start they have been under the cosh for 25 minutes of that half. [LNB] That'll do nicely: Tottenham's goalscorer sends the crowd into raptures[LNB]8.31: GOAL! Spurs lead Everton - Tom Hudlestone has put the home side in front. From deep inside the area, he put it into the top left of the net - my mate Terris was pleased with the goal - he described it as 'a belter.'[LNB]8.29: What do Barnsley have to do here to score? A fine ball roles tantalisingly across the six-yard box but there wasn't a player there to prod home, just one big toe and you'd be a hero forever. Ho, hum. [LNB]8.24: Chris Foy does his level best to curry favour with Sir Alex by brandishing two yellow cards in the direction of  Barnsley players. One small note on Barnsley's dominantion of the last 15 minutes - Owen and Macheda haven't touched the ball during that period.[LNB]8.18: Another fine chance for Barnsley  - they broke down the right and the centre fell to Hammill who blazed over the bar. They're getting closer! [LNB]8.16: GOAL! Peterborough have equalised - Chris Whelpdale gets Posh right back into it![LNB] Laugh a minute: Posh Fans take precautions for their trip to Ewood Park[LNB][LNB]8.12: All credit to Barsley, they have really fought their way into this game and I have a plan for them  - win more corners. United look like they've taken lessons from Chelsea on how to defend set pieces - Tykes' captain Foster has wasted two great headed chances in the last couple of minutes. [LNB]8.09: Chance for Barnsley! Bogdanovic, totally unmarked, heads against the outside of the post from a corner. The Tykes really should be level. [LNB]8.03: Obertan had a great opportunity to double United's lead but was closed down by Steele and GOAL! Frederic Piquionne has given Pompey the lead at home to Stoke on 17 minutes.[LNB] Pointing the way: Welbeck and Brown celebrate United's opener[LNB]8.02: GOAL! Pedersen has put Rovers in front with a free-kick against Peterborough after four minutes.[LNB]8pm: Much better from Barnsley - well, Adam Hammill had a dip from distance but, more importantly, it has put a bit of energy back into the subdued home crowd. The attempt went well, well over, by the way. [LNB]7.55: United should be two up. Welbeck controls a long ball from Anderson delightfully as it came over his right shoulder and should have squared to Owen but Steele saved well with his legs. [LNB]7.53: Mark Robins will be furious with that goal - the defending was, well, there wasn't any. [LNB]7.51: GOAL! Danny Welbeck puts united in front inside six minutes. Michael Owen went close with a header but from the resulting corner Welbeck rose far too easily to head in at the near post. [LNB]7.48: Over at White Hart Lane ... Roman Pavlyuchenko gets his second start of the season. Niko Kranjcar is cup-tied and replaced by Gareth Bale, Michael Dawson and David Bentley come in after injuries to Jonathan Woodgate and Aaron Lennon at the weekend, while Alan Hutton came in for Vedran Corluka. Everton have been hit by injuries and bring in Ayegbeni Yakubu for Jo.[LNB] Heads I win: Owen battles to win the corner from which Welbeck scored[LNB]7.46: Early work for for Foster as a free-kick is looped high into the box but the under-fire keeper took the ball cleanly enough. [LNB]7.45: I'll have the team news from the two other matches when I get it but we're at Oakwell now and the atmosphere is, unsurprisingly, raucous. United were last eliminated at the fourth-round stage in 2006, when they were beaten by Southend - not tempting fate or anything, honest! [LNB]7.30: If you've just joined us ... to let you know we'll be focusing n the match at Oakwell between Barnsley and Manchester United but we'll have all the action from around the grounds as the 10 sides go head-to-head to win place in the quarter final. [LNB]7.25: Yep, you've guessed it, more teams for you ... [LNB]Portsmouth: Ashdown, Vanden Borre, Kaboul, Wilson, Belhadj, Dindane, Brown, Mullins, Yebda, Piquionne, Webber. [LNB]You'll remember that it was Robins who scored the winner for United against Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup in 1990 - and saved the United boss from the sack. [LNB] Remember me? Roman Pavlyuchenko gets a rare start for Spurs tonight[LNB]Fergie will make a number of changes, as he always does in this competition, and then hope his side can get back to winning ways after the derby defeat to Liverpool on Saturday - the Tykes will attempt to pull off the most unlikely of victories.  [LNB]Sam Allardyce's swine flu-hit side look to bounce back after being thrashed by Chelsea at the weekend and take on Peterbrough despite reports that the game could have been postponed due to the outbreak of the bug at Ewood Park.[LNB]Last season's beaten finalists Tottenham host Everton with Harry Redknapp likely to give the much-maligned Roman Pavlyuchenko a start in place of the suspended Jermain Defoe and David Moyes is set to make numerous changes to the side that lost out to Bolton on Sunday. [LNB]Sunderland and Villa will be hoping to find some form after disappointing results at the weekend and Pompey take on a Stoke side buoyed after a fantastic result at White Hart Lane. [LNB]We'll let you know the latest team news as we get it, our focus for the evening will be at Oakwell, but we will have all the action elsewhere as it happens from 7.45pm.[LNB] Shooting star: Welbeck celebrates his goal against Wolves in the last round [LNB] I saved Fergie's job but he didn't say thank you, says Barnsley boss Robins Capello: My torment over not picking United super-sub Owen for EnglandHarry's the best signing we've ever made at Spurs, insists chairman LevyBlackburn boss Sam Allardyce: My swine flu fears for Chelsea squad [LNB]  Explore more:People:David Moyes, Gareth Bale, Niko Kranjcar, Julian Gray, Danny Welbeck, Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane, George Boyd, Michael Dawson, Michael Owen, Jermain Defoe, Alan Hutton, Adam Hammill, Ashley Young, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Sam Allardyce, Harry Redknapp, Gary Neville, Danny Webber, David Bentley, Fabio Da Silva, Luke YoungPlaces:Newcastle, Madrid, Ewood Park
