Missing out: Rooney[LNB]Fabio Capello has told Wayne Rooney he will not be in his England squad for this month's friendlies against Spain and Sweden but has assured him he will go to next summer's European Championship. [LNB]Sportsmail can reveal the England boss visited Manchester United's Carrington training ground on Thursday to meet Rooney and discuss the consequences of his red card against Montenegro last month. [LNB]While Capello explained he had to look at other players when he could be without his leading striker for the first three matches of Euro 2012, he told Rooney that even if an appeal fails to have his ban reduced he will still be in Poland and Ukraine.[LNB]He also told Rooney an international break would do him good given how much football he has already played for United this season. [LNB]Rooney spoke for the first time about the red card for his foul on Miodrag Dzudovic that led to his three-match ban and admitted it was 'stupid'. [LNB]He said: 'Obviously it's devastating for me but it's my own fault so I can't really complain. [LNB]'I honestly don't know why I did it. It was just one of those moments which I live to regret now. It was stupid. I regretted it as soon as I did it. It's no excuse but I still feel the punishment is a bit harsh. [LNB]'All the details we have been waiting on have come through so we'll be making a decision as to whether we will be appealing. Even if it's reduced by one game, it will be a bonus.'[LNB] Making contact: Rooney lashes out at Dzudovic[LNB]Rooney accepts missing the two friendlies. 'It's down to the manager now to play other players,' he said. 'I want to be there and I want to be part of the team. [LNB]'But I'll understand if I'm not in the next squad because I'll be missing out on those first three games at the minute and he has to look at other players it's as simple as that.' [LNB]Capello attended United's Champions League match at Old Trafford on Wednesday and stayed in Manchester for Sir Alex Ferguson's 25th anniversary event on Thursday night. [LNB]But the meeting is a measure of how important Rooney remains to Capello and evidence that the Italian is taking a more hands-on approach to dealing with his players in his final season in charge. [LNB] Meeting: Capello (right) travelled to Manchester to brief Rooney[LNB]While Franco Baldini will be back at his side for the Spain and Sweden games, Capello has essentially lost the man who did perform the liaison role to Roma.[LNB]The FA, having received the written explanation for the ban, will decide on an appeal today.[LNB] There was a fear that UEFA could respond by increasing Rooney's suspension, even though, as Sportsmail revealed, Dzudovic has written to UEFA pleading for leniency.[LNB]Additional reporting by Simon Jones[LNB] My United fairytale: Fergie reflects on a fantastic 25 years in charge at Old Trafford Manchester United tracking Udinese's versatile ?8m-rated midfielder AsamoahFerguson's toughest tests in his 25-year reign at Old TraffordAll the latest Manchester United news, features and opinion[LNB]
