Buffon Speculation Rubbished
Juventus have moved to put an end to rumours about the possible sale of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to Manchester United. Reports from Italy speculated that United were ready to come in with a bid for the stopper as Edwin van der Sar reaches retirement very shortly. But the rumours have been rubbished by Juventus’ general director Giuseppe Marotta and the player’s agent. “I deny any negotiation with United, Buffon is a Juventus player,” said Marotta. Buffon’s agent Silvano Martina added: “These transfer rumours make no sense. Buffon has been sidelined for three months so who would want an injured player? “Moreover, it seems to me that the best player at United so far has been Van der Sar.”
