Carlos Queiroz has told Cristiano Ronaldo to pull his socks up when he plays for Portugal.

Ronaldo has failed to transfer his superb Manchester United

form on to the international stage as his country struggles to qualify for the next year's World Cup.

Despite hitting 15 goals for United this season, the World Player of the Year has yet to score for his country in their qualifying campaign and Queiroz is not impressed.

'I want to see Cristiano working harder and producing more for the team," the former United No2 said. 'That should be his objective when he plays for us next.'

Portugal have won just once on the road to South Africa and, ahead of a crunch clash with Sweden at the end of the month, Queiroz has urged Ronaldo and United team-mate Nani to put the team back on track.

'There is no reason why Ronaldo, Nani, Simao or Maniche should not play well for Portugal because they seem to perform for their clubs and it is unexplainable,' he added.
