Manchester United have accepted a world-record-smashing £80million offer from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal star stunned the club by insisting he wanted to join the Spanish giants after two years of courting. It is understood the deal was agreed months ago when Ramon Calderon was at the Bernabeu helm and the new president Florentino Perez has rubber-stamped the deal after failing in the last few days to negotiate down the pre-agreed fee. A statement on the Manchester United website read: 'Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. 'At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player. 'Matters are expected to be concluded by June 30. The club will not comment until further notice.' More to follow.
