Manchester United have been handed a boost by midfield target Ilkay Gundogan after the Borussia Dortmund and Germany star admitted he'd like to leave the Bundesliga... one day.

United have previously been linked with a move for the German international along with Arsenal, City and Liverpool.

The Old Trafford club would face competition in the race for Gundogan's signature with City and Liverpool planning for the future and life without Yaya Toure and Steven Gerrard respectively.

The Daily Star report a move to the Premier League is now looking more likely though, with Gundogan revealing to German paper Bild (translation required) that he'd like to play in the English top-flight one day: "I'd like to leave the German championship, one day.

"Playing in the Premier League is one of my goals."

Ilkay Gundogan has been an integral part of Borussia Dortmund's team in recent seasons, helping the club to the Bundesliga title in 2012 and scoring in the Champions League final for BVB in 2013 where they eventually lost to rivals Bayern Munich.
