Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Dimitar Berbatov to gun down title rivals Arsenal. The Bulgarian hitman is in the best scoring form of his United career and is the Premier League's hottest marksman on 11 goals. After his five-star display against Blackburn, Ferguson is convinced Berbatov is set to become an Old Trafford great. And he believes the £30.75m club record signing will be well on the way to silencing his critics by handing United a title boost in Monday's crucial clash with league leaders Arsenal. Ferguson says Berbatov and United are set to make a charge after wrapping up top spot in Champions League Group C and destroying Blackburn in their last league outing. The United boss said: We have been looking for that kind of rhythm for some weeks after winning games without really turning on the Christmas lights. Dimitar Berbatov was top of the tree and I hope he has finally won over the doubters and will find the confidence now to continue to express himself so beautifully. The United manager is hoping his five-goal showing will kick-start a scoring blitz with another title showdown with Chelsea coming up after Monday's clash with Arsenal. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea has opened the door to a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season. Ferguson is considering a £15m move for the Spaniard as a possible replacement for Edwin van der Sar, who is due to retire. De Gea said: I know Sir Alex Ferguson already has viewed me. After this season we should look at who wants to talk. I would love to stay, but Manchester United are a great club. United's Premier League clash at Blackpool, which was postponed last weekend, has been rearranged for January 25.
