Berbatov - I am a winner

26 April 2009 11:56
Dimitar Berbatov has revealed a burning ambition to match the achievements of his more successful Manchester United team-mates.[LNB] For all of his guile and undoubted ability on the football field, the 27-year-old has just one Bulgarian Cup, one League Cup medal with Tottenham and a Fifa World Club Cup won with United this season to show for his efforts.[LNB]Compare this with the 22 medals won by Red Devils winger Ryan Giggs or the 18 collected by Edwin Van der Sar and you can sense why the Bulgarian is rankled by his lack of honours.[LNB]But the former Bayer Leverkusen ace has a chance to put this right in the coming days with the champions looking to retain both their Premier League and UEFA Champions League crowns.[LNB]"I am probably the only player in the locker room who hasn't won the important medals," he said.[LNB]"I sit there watching the other guys show their medals and talk about what it is like to win the Premier League or the Champions League and I think to myself 'I want to win one of those'.[LNB]Determined"Sometimes I can't join in with the conversations because I haven't done what they have done.[LNB]"I have settled okay. I don't have any complaints and the other players have been great helping me to learn about the club.[LNB]"But I am sure I will get better."[LNB]Berbatov missed a penalty in the shootout defeat to Everton as United failed to book their place in the FA Cup final last week.[LNB]He also missed out on the Carling Cup final win over former club Spurs in March, but the striker is confident other trophies will come this season.[LNB]"These are the games that I joined Manchester United for - trying to win the Champions League and the Premier League. This is why I came here," he added.[LNB]"It is always difficult but we are big believers in ourselves. I can be better but people should know that I am always fighting and working to improve myself."[LNB]
