Bebe makes United bow

Manchester United's summer signing Bebe played his first game for the club on Thursday night - but it ended in defeat. The reported £7million signing from Vitoria Guimaraes played the full 90 minutes of the 4-1 reserve-team defeat by Aston Villa. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson opted not to select Bebe for duty with the reserves prior to the international break, pointing out the forward's fitness levels were not up to the standard required. However, with two weeks' more work and a couple of matches for the Portugal Under-21 side behind him, Bebe faced Villa's second string. He regularly swapped flanks with Gabriel Obertan and produced some dangerous crosses - although it was Villa winger Barry Bannan who stole the show with a hat-trick. Ciaran Clark got the visitors' other goal, with Nicky Ajose netting for United.
