The 22 year old had been something of a flop in his first season with the Reds, so last time around he was shipped out on loan to Besiktas, but even then suffered with injuries.
Also in the squad is new signing Shinji Kagawa will get an early chance to impress.
Rio Ferdinand will captain the squad.
The players will fly out to Durban on Monday morning for a tour which also takes in Cape Town and Shanghai.
