This transfer window we have seen clubs slowly upping transfer bids for players over and over again, whilst constantly being rejected. Is it time that the likes of Arsenal, Madrid and United simply give up on their respective transfers?
United’s main transfer target this season has been Fabregas, however they seem to be offering far too little to drag him away from the Nou Camp. £30 million is just not enough when he moved to Barcelona from Arsenal for an apparent £31 million (another £4 million is based upon his length of stay at Barcelona.) Barcelona will hold out for £40 million at least and seen as United seem very unlikely to stretch this far, you have to beg the question, did they ever really think offering less than what Barcelona paid for him would ever reap rewards. It is about time United move away from Barcelona if they’re not going to put forward a serious offer for the Spaniard.
Then there’s Arsenals move for Suarez, which for any gunners fan seems to be taking up far too much of the limelight in this transfer window. I still believe that Wenger knew he would not be capturing the services of Suarez, and merely placed an initial offer to force Madrid’s hand for the player, and therefore push through the sale of Higuain to the Emirates. However they were trumped when Napoli made a better offer for the player and Madrid in turn began to show no interest in Suarez.
Even though they continued to improve their offer, they must realise that Liverpool would be very reluctant in releasing their star striker for £40,000,0001 to their closest rivals for 4th place. I believe that this saga has just been a smoke screen for Wenger to again sign no players and use this transfer speculation as an excuse. If you look long and hard at Arsenal’s squad they need far more than just a single striker to even begin to contemplate on challenging for the title.
It seems that Wenger once again is more happy to finish 4th and balance the books, than to spend big and push for that lucrative title. However this dissimulation shows no respect towards the fans who constantly pay one of the highest ticket prices in the league. Arsenal as a club owe their fans some signings, and to do this they must stop their apparent interest in Saurez.
Then finally we come to Bale. No doubt he is a very talented and gifted player. But with a figure now being quoted in the £105 million range Madrid chairman Florentino Perez should look the other way. Daniel Levy is holding him ransom (which he is in his right to do with a star asset.) and if I was Perez I would search Europe for another world class player that would cost a great deal less whilst using the rest of the money to strengthen other areas of the team.
These three players should be given up on, allowed to stay at their club for the next season. If a player wants to leave, let them stew at a club they’re unwilling to give 100% for. Their performance, most likely, will drop, and in turn so will that clubs transfer demands. On the other hand, in the case of Fabregas a player who appears to be happy at Barcelona, a club he grew up playing for, United should realise that their offer was never going to be enough and has merely shifted their gaze from real potential transfer targets.
