Ashley Young confident of adapting to Manchester United's new system
Ashley Young is convinced he can put his injury problems behind him and thrive at Manchester United this season.
The England winger was an immediate success at Old Trafford last year, but a start at Reading on Saturday was just his seventh in the Premier League this term.
A knee complaint and Sir Alex Ferguson's tendency to use a narrow formation have limited Young's involvement.
But he said: "I wasn't worried when the diamond formation emerged. It was fine.
"I'm a versatile player who can operate in a number of different positions so I'm comfortable with whatever formation the manager picks."
And Young wants to make up for lost time after two months out in the autumn.
He said: "When I was at Aston Villa, I barely missed a match so I've found these periods when I've been out very difficult to take.
"As a footballer you always want to be playing. It is never nice when you are on the sidelines. I never realised how hard it was to keep yourself motivated when everybody else is out training and you are stuck inside doing rehab."
