Monaco owner and billionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev is said to be putting together a world record £85 million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo who only has two years left on his current contract and has been rumored over the last several months to be unhappy at Real Madrid.

Most rumors have him going to Manchester United but with the retirement of father-figure, Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo may not be as keen to go there as he once was. Many stories coming out of Madrid, mostly from Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, have stated that Ronaldo is happy here and is looking to sign a contract extension. Ronaldo himself has said no such thing except for a vague statement he made the other night before Portugal’s World Cup Qualifier match against Russia. Ronaldo commented; "I am calm and not worried about it, I know we will reach a deal."

The statement is vague because he did not define who he was speaking about; will he reach a deal with Real Madrid, or is he being coy and making the statement that a deal will be done elsewhere? Only Ronaldo can answer that question and he has yet to do so.

Monaco have been watching the Ronaldo saga over the past few months like everyone else and believe that by making him the highest paid player in football, he would be willing to make the move. It is said that if Ronaldo has not signed a new contract with Real Madrid by the end of July, Monaco would make their move. July could be too late if Ronaldo has his heart set on leaving.

Ronaldo has scored an amazing 199 goals in 201 games at Real Madrid since his arrival from Manchester United in 2009. It is only Barcelona’s Lionel Messi that has stopped Ronaldo from being proclaimed as the greatest player in the world and possibly ever. Whether Monaco can pull off such a transfer, only time will tell and only Cristiano Ronaldo can tell us where his heart lies.
