Are Real Madrid in the Market for Wayne Rooney?

If Real Madrid signing Gareth Bale isn’t enough of a move, than I guess Real Madrid signing Wayne Rooney also will make most of us fall over backwards in disbelief.

Several stories have appeared over the weekend that have linked Wayne Rooney moving to Real Madrid this summer. It is believed that Carlo Ancelotti is to be the next Real Madrid manager, taking over for the “Special One” who in turn, is on his way to Chelsea. Ancelotti will try to lure the England international to Madrid by taking advantage of the current situation that is surrounding the 27 year olds future with the Red Devils.

It is said that David Moyes is to sit down with Rooney today and decide where his future lies with the club.Moyes has been very quiet about Rooney and his standing with the club. Rooney wanted assurances from Sir Alex Ferguson about his place in the squad several weeks ago. Ferguson was unable to make any guarantees to the striker due to his pending retirement. Rooney has since turned in another transfer request and in turn Ferguson did not select him for either of his last two games.

Rooney is currently working out with the England squad where Roy Hodgson has made it clear that he will be starting for England. England is getting ready for a friendly with the Republic of Ireland this Wednesday. It also looks that Hodgson has so much confidence in Rooney that he will be giving him the captain’s armband for the match while Steven Gerrard recovers from surgery.Rooney’s future should become clearer after the talks today with David Moyes.

Moyes is heading out on holiday for three weeks on Wednesday to get a little rest before the summer transfer season goes into effect. It is expected that several United players will be leaving Old Trafford and right now it looks as if Rooney will be leading the parade.
